Booking your first running holiday or trail running weekend can feel exciting . . . but also a little intimidating.
We hear the same worries all the time before people join us on one of our running weekends or trail running holidays:
“Am I fit enough?”
“Will everyone already know each other?”
“What if I’m too slow?”
“Can I actually do this?”
The good news? Most people feel exactly the same before their first trip.
At Run Weekends, our running holidays are designed to feel welcoming, social and supportive from the very beginning. Whether you’re joining a trail running holiday in Europe, a UK trail running weekend or a mountain running adventure abroad, the aim is always the same: great trails, great people and an unforgettable experience.

Am I Fit Enough for a Running Weekend?
This is probably the number one question we get.
You absolutely do not need to be an elite runner to join our running retreats or trail running vacations. Most of our guests are everyday runners who simply enjoy being active, exploring new places and spending time outdoors.
Our trips are designed to be social rather than competitive. We regroup regularly, support each other and focus on enjoying the experience rather than racing.
Whether you’re new to trail running adventures or already experienced on the trails, there’s a place for you.
What If I Can’t Manage the Distance?
A lot of people worry about this before booking a running holiday in Europe or a trail running tour in the UK.
The reality is that people are often more capable than they think.
Our guides are experienced at managing mixed ability groups and creating an encouraging atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable. We include plenty of stops, photo opportunities and breaks along the way.
It’s not about pushing yourself to exhaustion. It’s about exploring incredible places through running.
Is It Okay to Come Alone?
Definitely.
Lots of people join our running vacations solo and many say it was one of the best decisions they made.
One of the things we love most about Run Weekends is how quickly people connect. By the end of the first run, conversations are flowing and friendships are already forming.
If you’re searching for running holidays for singles or social running trips, you’ll fit right in.
What Kind of People Come on Running Trips?
A real mix.
Solo travellers, groups of friends, experienced trail runners and people completely new to running holidays.
Our groups are incredibly varied in age, background and running experience, and honestly, that’s what makes the atmosphere so special.
Everyone is there for the same reason: to run, explore, eat good food and share an adventure together.
Do I Need Trail Running Experience?
Not at all.
Many people join our trail running holidays having never done a proper trail run before.
Our guides are there to help you build confidence on different terrain and support you throughout the trip. The focus is always on enjoyment, not performance.
Trail running vacations should feel adventurous and fun, not intimidating.
What’s Included in a Run Weekends Trip?
This varies slightly depending on the trip, but all Run Weekends include:
Accommodation
Guided runs
Transfers during the trip
All meals
A supportive and social group atmosphere
We want our running weekends and adventure running holidays to feel as stress-free as possible so you can focus on enjoying the experience.
What Do I Need to Organise Myself?
Usually just:
Flights or travel to the destination
Personal spending money for extra drinks/snacks etc.
Your running kit and essentials
Travel insurance
Closer to the trip, we always send out a detailed welcome pack with a full packing list, kit advice and everything else you need to know before arriving.
We also strongly recommend arranging travel insurance for any running holiday or trail running vacation. We currently partner with True Traveller, a company many of our community members already use for adventure travel and running trips.
Why Running Holidays Are About More Than Just Running
Yes, the trails are amazing. But what people usually remember most from our running retreats and trail running holidays in Europe are the conversations, shared meals, post-run coffees and people they met along the way.
There’s something special about exploring mountains, coastlines and new places with a group of like-minded people.
That’s why so many runners come back for another trip.
