What is Run Weekends?Run Weekends are running adventure getaways led by Nick Butter and his team. Mostly long weekends, these retreats are based around NOT RACING. There is no timing, no set in stone route, and importantly everyone will run together. Run Weekends take place all over the world. Some are small, 2 or 3 day, low key events in familiar settings, others are in far flung locations lasting as long as 10 days. The essence of our retreats encompasses the love of running, travel, community spirit, and the love of adventure. It is an opportunity to combine meeting like minded people, travel and trying new activities. The weekends will vary from camping to luxury accommodation, fire pits on the beach to amazing restaurants, cold water swims to sauna’s and spa’s - keep your eye out for new destinations added. One thing that is always the case for every Run Weekend is our values. Togetherness, Adventure, Friendship, and Discovery.
-
Where and when do Run Weekends take place?Where: All over the world. There’s a mixture of stunning UK based locations, and many in other continents. Nick’s extensive travelling experience and contacts allows him to be able to deliver run weekends in destinations less travelled. When: As the name would suggest most events will be held around the weekend. Friday to Sunday. But some last up to 10 days. Most locations will feature once in summer and once in winter.
-
Who can participate in Run Weekends? You can! Run Weekends is designed to be totally inclusive. All Abilities for every weekend. There's no pressure to run fast or far. It's a great opportunity to try new distances with good people around you for support. Everyone will run together as a group. Anyone who loves the outdoors, loves running, and comes with our values in mind. This is an inclusive, friendly space. As for ability, all Run Weekends are open to all abilities. Speed and experience doesn’t matter. Come with a warm heart and an open mind and you’ll fit right in. There will be a variety of weekends that encompass activities from cold water swims, to surfing, to yoga, to meditation, to pottery classes! It’s not just running.
-
Do I have to be a good runner to take part? No! All runs on all our adventures are optional. Depending on the weekend you choose, there will be different distances, all with the option to try part of or all of each distance. For example - if we run a marathon and you've never run one before - that's ok. Give it a go. If you want to stop at 20 miles, no worries we'll help you get back to the accommodation. Or we'll help encourage you to the finish line. Most weekends will be centred around the marathon distance, but not always. Multi day fast packing (travelling with everything on your back in a lightweight bag), hostel hopping, and many more styles of weekend.
-
Can I come to Run Weekends by myself?Yes of course! It’s often cheaper if you come along with a friend or partner but single occupancy is available. The aim of these weekends is to enjoy the love of running, make new friends, discover a new part of the world and try new things We will arrive as strangers and leave as friends!
-
Why should I choose Run Weekends? If you run because you just love to be outside, if you run to discover new places, and if you’re willing to support others and arrive with an inclusive attitude, you’ll fit right in. We believe the benefits of running with us is based around 2 things: 1) the energy and chilled nature of each Run Weekend. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, and we don’t worry about speed or egos. 2) We can take good care of you, show you new places, and be supported by some of the kindest and well experienced runners. And let’s not forget you’ll be running with Nick.
-
What is the typical schedule for Run Weekends? Each Run Weekend will vary hugely based on the location, but will generally feature 3 + runs throughout the trip, with one of these runs being a ‘long run’. Our long runs are usually marathon distances, but some are much further. The other highlights include exceptional food and trying new activities. We will also try to be flexible too. If the consensus of the group is to run a few more miles, or start a little later in the day, we will listen. This weekend is for you.
-
Can I bring my family or friends who are not participating in the running activities?Yes. With our values being one of togetherness, it’s important you bring people along that will make the Run Weekends more enjoyable for you. If your friends or family don’t run, we encourage you to ask them to try. Because it might open a whole new world for them. But yes, most weekends are set up to accommodate non runners.
