Itinerary

Welcome to Georgia, a land of dramatic landscapes, deep tradition, and legendary hospitality. Join us for 5 days and 4 nights of trail running in the Kazbegi region, where ancient churches cling to mountainsides and glacier-fed rivers cut through wild, open valleys.

We’ll run 3 stunning trail routes (totalling 65km), each one revealing a different side of the Caucasus: from the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church and the Gergeti Glacier, to the alpine meadows of Juta, to the surreal mineral springs and abandoned villages of Truso Valley. You’ll stay in a cosy mountain lodging with sweeping views of Mount Kazbek and fuel your efforts with hearty Georgian meals and a glass of local wine each evening.

This is not a race, it’s trail running as a journey. We’ll move as a group at a steady, social pace. Expect trail running with soul, more about moving through landscapes together than chasing PBs. We will take time soaking in the views, enjoying wild dips, and breathing in that high mountain air. The routes have been personally recced, offering a truly off-the-beaten-path experience in one of the most spectacular corners of Europe. The adventure wraps up with a short city run in Tbilisi and a final group breakfast. After that you’re free to catch your flight or stay on to explore one of Europe’s most vibrant and welcoming capital cities. Please note: Due to the extreme elevation, many of the miles on this 'Run' Weekend will be hiking and walking up and down steep sections.

Day 1

Welcome to Run Weekends in Georgia + Journey to the Mountains

Arrive in Tbilisi by 14.00 and meet at Gabriadze Cafe near The Clock Tour (we will be here from 13:00 but leaving no later than 14:30). Meet your fellow runners before heading north through dramatic gorges and wide-open steppe. After the scenic 3-hour drive to Kezbegi, settle into our cosy mountain base and enjoy a warm Georgian welcome over dinner. We’ll run through the weekend plan and raise a glass to the adventure ahead.

Day 2

Ancient Trails & Glacier Views - 23km + 1670m elevation

We’ll fuel up with a hearty breakfast before lacing up for a scenic 23km loop beginning with a steady climb to the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church, perched high above the valley. From there, the trail continues towards the Gergeti Glacier, winding through wildflower meadows, alpine streams, and past dramatic ridgelines, all set against the backdrop of Mount Kazbek. We’ll break for a packed lunch in the highlands, and along the way, we’ll also pass a charming mountain hut and a café, both known for their panoramic views and excellent homemade cake. After the run, you’ll have time to shower before we head out for dinner. Kazbegi is a small, welcoming town, so nothing is ever too far from where we’re based. We’ll end the day with stargazing under the vast Caucasus sky.

Day 3

Juta Valleys - 21km+1100m elevation

Today we head into the wild beauty of Juta Valley on a 21km out-and-back trail run that climbs steadily into the highlands. The route follows rivers and ridgelines deep into the shadow of the Chaukhi Massif, often called the “Georgian Dolomites” for its jagged alpine peaks. Along the way, we’ll cross several streams and rivers, so expect wet feet and plenty of fun. We’ll pause at the stunning Chaukhi Pass for a packed lunch with a view, before beginning our descent. On the way back, we’ll stop at a mountain hut, where hammocks, warm drinks, and homemade cake await. Then it’s back to base to unwind before another hearty Georgian dinner.

Day 4

Hidden Fortresses & Shepherd Trails - 21km + 385m elevation

Our final big run takes us into the remote and otherworldly Truso Valley, a flatter, more runnable 21km route that winds past bubbling mineral springs, colourful travertine formations, and the abandoned stone villages of Georgia’s highlands. We’ll head out to the ruins of Zakagori Fortress, perched near the Ossetian border, where we’ll stop for a scenic picnic lunch. On the return leg, we’ll pass Abano Monastery, where (if we’re lucky) the female monks serve local honey, wine, beer and khachapuri from their peaceful hillside café, a truly special treat. Afterwards, we’ll drive back to Tbilisi together and check in to our city hotel. That evening, we’ll gather for one final Georgian feast, a chance to share stories from the trail, raise a glass to new friendships, and celebrate an unforgettable few days of running and adventure.

Day 5

City Jog & Goodbyes

Our final morning begins with an optional short shake-out jog through the streets of Tbilisi, the perfect way to stretch the legs and soak up a little more of the city’s charm. We’ll round it off with coffee and traditional breakfast at a local café before returning to the hotel to freshen up and check out. From there, guests can make their way to the airport or spend a little extra time exploring Tbilisi’s colourful markets, winding lanes, and lively cafés at their own pace. Though it’s always hard to say goodbye, we’ll part ways with new friendships, shared memories, and stories from a few days of running in Georgia’s wild beauty.
