Why Proper Job 0.5% and Trail Running Are a Great Match
Trail running and a good beer might not seem like an obvious pairing, but they have more in common than you might think. Both can be about getting outdoors, discovering new places, spending time with other people and enjoying the experience rather than worrying about the numbers.
That's why we're proud to partner with Proper Job 0.5%, the low-alcohol IPA from Cornwall's St Austell Brewery, at Run Weekends.
Whether you're tackling a mountain trail, exploring a coastal path or catching up with friends after a run, it's a partnership that celebrates the social side of running.

1. It's about the experience, not just the miles
At Run Weekends, we believe running is about much more than pace, distance or finishing times. Our guided running holidays bring people together to explore new destinations, discover trails and share experiences along the way.
The same spirit applies to a long day on the trails. The views, the conversations, the unexpected moments and the people you meet can be just as important as the miles covered.
Having something to look forward to at the end of a run is part of the enjoyment, too. For many runners, that might mean a meal with the group, a stop at a local pub or simply sitting down together to swap stories from the day.
2. Big flavour, with only 0.5% alcohol
Proper Job 0.5% is an IPA brewed by St Austell Brewery, bringing the character of its original Proper Job beer to a low-alcohol alternative.
It has citrus and tropical hop flavours, including notes of grapefruit and pineapple, balanced by malty sweetness and a crisp finish. It's designed for people who enjoy the flavour of an IPA but want a lower-alcohol option.
That makes it an interesting addition to the social side of running, whether you're meeting friends after a trail run or relaxing at a pub stop during an adventure.
Of course, 0.5% beer is not the same as alcohol-free beer, and it isn't a sports drink or a substitute for water and appropriate post-run nutrition. During longer runs, staying hydrated and fuelling properly remain essential.
3. Running brings people together
One of the best things about group trail running is the community it creates.
At Run Weekends, people join trips with different backgrounds, running abilities and reasons for taking part. Some book alone, others come with friends, but everyone gets the chance to explore somewhere new and share the experience.
You don't need to be an elite runner to enjoy a running adventure. Taking your time, stopping to appreciate the scenery and chatting to the people around you are all part of what makes running in a group special.
A shared love of the outdoors, a welcoming pub and a chance to talk about the day's adventures can make those connections even stronger.
4. Celebrating Cornwall's running and pub culture
Cornwall is a fitting place to celebrate the connection between running, community and local pubs. Its coastal paths, countryside routes and network of trails offer plenty of opportunities to explore on foot, while its brewing heritage makes it a natural home for Proper Job 0.5%.
We're excited to bring these ideas together through our partnership with St Austell Brewery, creating opportunities for runners to get outside, discover more of Cornwall and enjoy the social side of an adventure.
And there's a chance to be part of it yourself.

You don't have to run the full 100km. You can join Nick and the group for a few miles, a morning, a full day or the whole weekend, choosing a section that suits your experience and fitness.
Thanks to St Austell Brewery, Proper Job 0.5% will be complimentary at participating pub stops when you're there with Nick. Other food and drinks are at your own expense.
The event is free, but registration is required.
We can't wait to get out on the trails, explore Cornwall together and celebrate everything that makes running about more than just running.
