Itinerary
One of the best European cities for runners. We'll be running the hills and switch backs, jogging a casual marathon along the beach front, dining in exceptional restaurants, and staying in one of the best located hotels in all of Barcelona.

Join Run Weekends in April for a long weekend of running and exploring this enchanting mediterranean city. This place really does have it all - beach, city, culture and the very best cuisine! Over the weekend you will experience everything Barcelona has to offer, from the winding old streets of the gothic quarter, passing through Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas plus running the entire length of Barcelona's beach front. There will be plenty of stunning scenic photo opportunities, especially from the highest point in the city on your first day.
One of the 4 guided group runs will take us up to Montjuic Castle; and another day we'll run to the highest point in Barcelona where you will be greeted with the best views of the city and the surrounding coastline, as well as the Sagrat Cor church. A weekend to remember running with Nick Butter, his team and a group of likeminded runners. It's not a race, so come along and get stuck in. We run slow, we chat, we eat, and it's all about the pure love of running and discovering a new city.
Day 1 - Thursday 3rd April 2025
Arrival, Welcome Briefing & Shakeout Run - 16km + 500m

We'll be waiting for you at the Catalonia Plaza Hotel where you Run Weekend will begin at 17:00. If you arrive earlier in the day there are plenty of options to enjoy this stunning Spanish city, soak up the sun rays, chill by the rooftop pool or have a wander around the Spanish streets. Once everyone has arrived we'll head out to catch the sunset at the highest point in the city. This 16km jog is a gradual uphill on the way out, and all down on the way back. It's well worth it. Once sunset has shown us its colours we'll descend the trails back to the hotel for 19:30. Tonight we head out to a quaint and classically Barcelona tapas restaurant. Feast on padron peppers, muscles, paella, patatas braves and more. Fill the tank before marathon day tomorrow. If it's not too late we may have time to sip on some sangria by the rooftop pool. Note - this rooftop has a wonderful view of the city. Just you wait.
Day 2 - Friday 4th April 2025
Explore Day: Montjuic Castle, Catalonian Hills & Park Guell - 12km

Wake up bright and early ready to kick off the weekend with a spectacular sunrise run up to Montjuic Castle, an old military fortress sat amongst the Catalonian hills. You can expect a steady incline upwards from the moment we begin at Plaza Espana Steps, past the olympic stadium, all the way to the picturesque view point overlooking Barcelona Port. After a tasty buffet breakfast at the hotel we'll head back out for a full day of exploring everything that this incredible Spanish city has to offer, from the local culture and cuisine to the amazing architecture. We will be on our feet for a while ticking off all the great Barcelona sites. Full from breakfast, and with 12km in our legs from the morning run, we'll pin ball around the city ticking off Casa Mila, Casa Batllo, Placa de Catalunya, Gothic Quarter, Picasso Museum, Arc de Triomf, La Sagrada Familia, and finishing in the Northern hills to visit the special Park Guell. Not to be missed. By now the sun will be setting and so it's a perfect chance to tuck into a cosy dinner before bed - it's marathon day tomorrow.
Day 3 - Saturday 5th April 2025
Sunday is long run day (of course) - 42.2km

Our main event of the weekend. It's marathon time. Spanning the entire length of Barcelona beach 'the Barceloneta', we'll take in the uninterrupted turquoise of the Mediterranean leading to Badalona (neighbouring town). There are water points along the route, and we'll take plenty of breaks to refuel and take photos! Last year we allowed 8 hours to trot this gentle marathon distance. We stopped for ice creams, took plenty of photos, and got back in just under 7 hours. We run together. It's a casual pace. We will start early, having tucked into the enormous buffet breakfast at the hotel. This means we can be back to the hotel by 17:00 in time for a few hours of recuperating before we head out for a spectacular display of colour, light, motion, music and water acrobatics at the 'Magic Fountain', a must see when visiting Barcelona. Fortunately this is just over the road from the hotel so your legs can rest. We have a special dinner spot for tonight - we earned it.
Day 4 - Sunday 6th April 2025
Ciutadella Park, Sagrada Familia, The old Bull Ring - 8km

After the marathon yesterday and many more miles walked across the city, you will be relieved to know it is just a short run for the final day! A steady 8km to Ciutadella Park. (Remember all runs are optional). A visit to the famous Sagrada Familia will be our last outing of your Run Weekend. To close we will have one final lunch all together at Plaza Espana in the old Bull Ring at a brilliant cafe restaurant in walking distance. You'll be available to leave for the airport anytime after 12:00. We will be sad to see you leave. The city is a magical place. Even better when you get to run it.
