GUIDED RUNNING TRE CIME DI LAVAREDO TRAIL
Itinerary
Italian mountain running at its most beautiful. The Dolomites is the crumple zone of Europe. Carry your gear, pack your lunch, make up your drinks, and head out for 5 glorious days in the mountains. You'll be hopping from hut to hut. The sunsets across the lakes, the low lying cloud, and an opportunity to reconnect with the trails. Rugged single track paths twist and turn between the peaks. Say goodbye to hotels and welcome in the simple living of mountain refuge huts. Join Nick and the team for 6 nights and 5 group trail runs. No more than 17km per day, and all with plenty of opportunities for photos, stops to refill water and have lunch on route. Don’t forget, this is for all abilities. We’ll run together as a group but some mountain hiking fitness is worth having. Dinners will be had in the shared mountain refuge huts. It's not gourmet food, but it is in the middle of nowhere with many like minded hikers and runners. Meet us in San Candido for 5 mountains days, with our final spot at the glorious Braies Lake for the last 5km before heading back to where we started. [NOTE: You must carry ALL your gear - you can leave luggage on day one and collect on the final day (in the hotel in San Candido), but in between, your backpack is all you have]. Please note: Due to the extreme elevation, many of the miles on this 'Run' Weekend will be hiking and walking up and down steep sections.
Day 1 - Thursday - 17th July
Welcome to the Dolomites
Your Run Weekend will kick off at 19:00 in San Candido at our Hotel. Please ask for Nick Butter upon arrival. Nick and the team will be on hand to welcome you from 16:00 so arrive early if you wish. Dinner, along with a welcome message will be at 19:30. Please arrive before 20:00 at the latest so you don't miss the safety briefing. Our first night is about gathering the troops, settling in, and prepping for the days ahead. If you are partial to your home comfort snacks - we recommend you pack sensibly. You will be carrying all your gear on your back. Any luggage you travel with, but don't want to run with, can be left at the hotel to collect on our final day. We finish where we start.
Day 2 - Friday - 18th July
San Candido to Locatelli Hut [aka Lavaredo Hut] - 17km

Wakey wakey! We leave San Candido village bright and early to follow a a smooth path up through the pine woods with the peaks ahead of us. With a stop off for lunch at the TRE SCARPERI HUT the climbing begins slowly up the edges of a beautiful valley covered in white rocks and pine woods. Your efforts will be rewarded with the classic view of the Three Lavaredo Peaks, Monte Paterno, Torre di Toblin and Torre dei Scarperi. Our night stay will be to the backdrop of some of the most spectacular mountains in Europe. Dinner will be in the refuge among hikers and walker. If you're up to it - we will venture to an ideal photo spot in the caves behind the refuge that frame the mountains. There’s even a waterfall to visit. This place is captivating.
Day 3 - Saturday - 19th July
Locatelli Hut to Fonda Savui Hut - 13km

After breakfast and a chance to take in sunset over a hot drink, we'll pack our lunches and head out on one of the famous paths that skirts around the famous 3 peaks. We'll pass the first col and circle around the first peak to open up the horizon to more and more views. From the LAVAREDO HUT, where we'll have an opportunity for water we can start to see the popular AURONZO HUT which will lead to a rough downhill path that will improve as soon as we reach a high quality trail through some more pine woods. As the miles tick by the climb will increase - with some challenging segments where we will ascend with the help of metal chords and wooden walkways. Our small hut for the night is situated in an incredible position between stunning peaks. Time for rest before the following days running.
Day 4 - Sunday - 20th July
Fonda Savio Hut to Vandelli Hut - 17km

Another beautiful day to be in the mountains (we hope - remember we are exposed to the elements). Pack accordingly. Today takes in views of the Monte Cristallo and the typical red face of the Croda Rossa d’Ampezzo from afar. Our trail today will lead us to the Misurina lake. Here we can stop for food, swim and enjoy the wonders of the mountains around us. Soak it in. There's only 2 days left. Before we settle into our accommodation for the evening there's just one more rugged climb, another lake, Lake Sorapis, and even some downhill. With no showers in the refuge huts on any of the nights, we can use the nearby lake to freshen up. Sundown and bed, before another day dawns.
Day 5 - Monday - 21st July
Vandelli Hut to Cortina D'Ampezzo - 13km

Our final morning running in the mountains concludes with a net 500m decent down to Cortina D'Ampezzo. It's a glorious trail, welcoming back the trees and pines of the lower mountains. Once again, pack your lunch, top up your water and enjoy the 13km as a group. At Cortina we'll gather and wait for transport connections back to San Candido. The running isn't over yet, because we still have a gentle 5km around Braies lake tomorrow. First though let's get back to base, shower, eat, and change ready for the next days. Our journey back to San Candido will be a bus to Toblach, Bahnhof and then a train to San Candido. We'll stop and grab some snack on the way back. Bring extra cash for this. Good to know - Your first night, and your last night are in the same hotel.
Day 6 - Tuesday - 22nd July
Braies Lake Visit

The mountain climbs are over, but we now have one last spectacular spot to visit. Braies lake is a special place nestled amongst the mountains. Pack your bags, checkout of the hotel by 09:00 (leave your bags in reception) and we'll travel together by train and bus to one last run spot. 5km around the lake is optional. You can simply soak in the views in the nearby cafes if your legs are craving a rest. We will have 2 hours here. We will aim to arrive back into San Candido by 15:00 to say our goodbyes. From here it's up to you to travel back to your flights home.
