Itinerary
Our January event was so popular we added another. Escape to the stunning coast of Cornwall with Run Weekends' trail running retreat at 3 Mile Beach, Gwithian. Over four days, you’ll explore some of the most picturesque parts of the South West Coast Path, running 60km over 4 days on rugged trails with 1000m elevation. Day 1 - a simple 10km to shakeout the legs. Day 2 - 17km to St Ives for lunch. Day 3 - 28km to St Agnes and Day 4 a final 5km to close out the weekend. The terrain is mostly coastal trail, offering beautiful views of the rugged coastline, with runs stretching some of the best the coastline has to offer - from St Ives to St Agnes. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned runner, this retreat caters to all abilities, with expert guides leading the way. After our runs together we'll have some time to unwind in the luxury beach houses, complete with your own private hot tub and sauna. Enjoy hearty, delicious meals and group dinners in the onsite yurt, where you can share stories of the day’s adventure with fellow runners. If you're looking for something extra, try your hand at surfing in the Atlantic or simply relax by the beach. This retreat offers a perfect mix of fitness, relaxation, and stunning Cornish scenery – an unforgettable running experience by the sea.
Day 1 - Friday 9th January
Welcome to Cornwall + 10km + 100m
Today is your arrival day, there's just a gentle 10km shakeout run scheduled once you arrive, although we might try to sneak a few kms if the group is feeling up to it. Your Run Weekend will officially kick off at 17:00 with a welcome briefing from the team. Our beach houses will be ready and waiting for you. Drop your bags, have some food and get in the hot tub. Our first night is about gathering the troops, settling in, and prepping for the days ahead. Dinner will be from 20:00 in the Yurt. There's probably enough time to have some drinks and grab some time in the sauna before bed. You have 60km of coastal trails ahead of you over the next few days.
Day 2 - Saturday 10th January
Coast Path South to St Ives - 17km + 250m
Wakey wakey! Set your alarms for 08:30 because it's breakfast for 09:00 and out the door with our running packs ready by 10:00. We're having lunch in St Ives today, but first we have to get there. For both of our longer trail running days we are running a point to point with transfers arranged to take us back to our home base. Today's run South is a relatively gentle route, considering the severity of much of the coast path. We pass through Upton Towans and Mexico Towans Beach before reaching Hayle, where there's toilets and a chance to top up on snacks. Once past Carbis Bay we're nearly there. Depending on the mood of the group we can add on a little extra distance and head to an alternative lunch spot if the weather is nice.
Day 3 - Sunday 11th January
Coast Path North to St Agnes - 28km + 600m
Today we go North. Having had breakfast together in the Yurt, prepared by our chef it's time to head North. This part of the coast path weaves its way past Godrevy, Navax Point, through National Trust land, past Portreath and Porthtowan to eventually hit another National Trust landscape just before St Agnes. All the way we'll take the running steady, with no expectations on pace. We run together. We'll have time to have lunch on route too. Dinner is back at the beach houses. You'll have plenty of time to rest the legs and have a few drinks in the hot tub. Remember, keep your electrolytes in check. It could be a hot day.
Day 4 - Monday 12th January
Optional Surf Lesson & Sea Dip - 5km + 100m
It's time for goodbyes, but not before an optional surf lesson and some time in the sea. If you're brave enough have a sea dip, it'll be chilly. We'll round off the weekend with a gentle 5km beach run before say goodbye. We are happy to help with onward travel arrangements if you need it. Or perhaps stay an extra few days. Your photos of the weekend will be sent to you after the trip. Run Weekends is about community so stay in touch with new found friends and jog again soon. Thanks for running with us.
