Itinerary

A full immersion into the best of the Lake District. Expect rugged fells, stunning views and breathtaking swims, before catching your breath and rehydrating in some of the Lakes' famed village pubs. We'll be staying in a selection of gorgeous cottages in Coniston, in the heart of the Lakes, with a 10 minute walk down to the lakeshore for easy access at all times. The weekend kicks off with a short evening shakeout on Friday to find your trail legs, before kicking them into action with a 30k fell run on Saturday, featuring a visit to the Esk plungepools for the mid-run dip of dreams. After recovering with a BBQ and games, we'll head back out into the fells on Sunday for a shorter route, with some ridge time still packed in. There'll be no Sunday scaries, as the weekend closes out with a sunrise jaunt up Coniston Old Man on Monday morning, followed by paddleboarding on the lake and a final pub lunch before departure. Don't worry, there'll be an opportunity to run and swim every day.

Day 1 - Friday 21st June

Arrive & Run - 7km, 275m

Arrival day. Arrive into the village of Coniston between 13:00-14:00. We'll gather the group and begin settling into our gorgeous cottages followed by a quick welcome message by Nick and a briefing from the team. From 15:00 we'll be straight off up 'The Bell' to get those legs moving after your travels. Simply arrive with plenty of time to check in, change and we'll be running before the last of the days light fades over the lakes. Post run, and having had more time to settle in, dinner will be a relaxed affair in the village, setting us up for a big day out tomorrow.

Day 2 - Saturday 22nd June

Long Run Day with Lake Swims - 30km, 2000m

It'll be an early start (although not the earliest this weekend...) to get out for our longest run of the trip. After breakfast in the cottages, we'll set off to run 30km with nearly 2000m ascent over the Coniston ridge and western fells to Eskdale. On our way we'll pass the Upper Esk plungepools, your first opportunity to swim, or indulge in some cliff jumping if you're feeling brave, before running through the idyllic Esk and Duddon valleys, finishing down the historic Walna Scar Road. The late afternoon will be filled with outdoor games - did someone say spikeball? We'll then have the evening to recover before a BBQ dinner. We'll allow plenty of time for a hilly day full of fells.

Running Holiday in the Lake District
Day 3 - Sunday 23rd June

Ridge Running, Waterfalls and Lake Swims - 12km, 750m

Staying in a beautiful cottage means we can have a home cooked breakfast together around the farmhouse style kitchen table. It's a shorter day today, but not to be underestimated, with 750m ascent still on the cards - so fuel up well. We'll have porridge, cooked breakfasts and plenty of tea and coffee to start the morning. From the peaks we'll follow the beautiful winding descents into the woodlands above Tilberthwaite. Wetherlam and Holme Fell offer us ridge running, forests and waterfalls to keep view-hungry eyes occupied. It's then a chilled afternoon with lake swims, the potential of a steam gondola cruise (availability permitting),  followed by dinner at the cosiest pub in the village.

Running in the Lake District
Day 4 - Monday 24th June

Sunrise Day, Grab your Head Torches - 11km, 750m

It's too good to miss. Gather for a 03:15 departure (yes that's not a typo) We're aiming for sunrise on the summit at 04:40. What a great opportunity to enjoy this classic without the midday hoards. Of course, our route features a fly-by past a tarn on the way down, in case the sunrise didn't quite wake you up. After our run, we'll have a relaxed breakfast together back at the cottage and quite possibly a short nap before our final water-based activity of the trip: Optional Paddlebording! A final hearty pub lunch, and that's all folks. Your weekend comes to a close at 14:00.
